STTC have already reported this incident to the Tennant Canal owners, ensuring they are fully aware of the polluted brown water entering the canal from a drainage outlet.
Extensive drainage work was carried out in 2021 at this exact location, and the current discharge raises serious concerns about the effectiveness and long‑term impact of that installation.

The drain system installed in 2021 is responsible for the brown, contaminated water entering the canal, creating the long plume of discolouration that now runs both upstream and downstream from the outflow.
There was a bleak irony in the scene. A large pike rested in just inches of brown, contaminated water, facing the polluted drain as if acknowledging the source of the murk that now smothers this stretch of canal.
The canal water is visibly discoloured, carrying a blend of brown sediment from the drainage outlet. The water is now flowing out of the drainage system installed in 2021, discolouring the canal and adding to the visible pollution in this section.
The polluted brown water doesn’t just pool around the outflow — it travels upstream for over 50 yards, leaving a long, murky trail that stains the canal and makes the entire stretch look contaminated.
The drainage work appears to have been carried out on land formerly associated with Fenestration Recycling Co Ltd, a company that later entered creditors’ voluntary liquidation on 31 March 2025.
The abandoned Fenestration Recycling site, which contains huge piles of shredded plastic waste and rubber, is an absolute disgrace. It is shocking that a company was ever allowed to operate in this condition, and serious questions must be asked of both Natural Resources Wales and Health & Safety officials who permitted it.

I am writing to inform you of significant pollution affecting the Tennant Canal in the section on the link below. The issue was photographed on September 01 2026 and shows brown, contaminated water entering the canal from the drainage system installed by the now liquidated Fenestration Recycling Co Ltd in 2021.

The discharge from this drain is producing a thick plume of brown, sediment‑laden water that spreads both upstream and downstream. In places, the canal water is heavily discoloured, mixing with existing iron‑stained deposits and leaving the entire stretch looking polluted and stagnant. The contaminated water travels more than 50 yards upstream, creating a long trail of murky, unhealthy flow.
This pollution is clearly visible and has already affected wildlife. A large pike was observed lying in only a few inches of brown water, facing the drain outlet—a stark indicator of the deteriorating water quality in this area.
Given the scale and persistence of the contamination, I believe this matter requires urgent attention to prevent further environmental harm and to ensure the canal is protected from ongoing discharge.
